About

We’re using this page to fuel Civic Education Kenya’s mission: running our core operations and advancing each of our digital civic education projects. From the CEKA app (Civic Education Kenya App) to Recall254, and everything in between, we build free, open‑source tools that close knowledge gaps and empower citizens across generations.

At Civic Education Kenya (CEKA), we believe every Kenyan deserves clear, engaging civic education. In a country where youth (ages 18–35) make up three-quarters of the population, many feel disconnected from politics. With insufficient civic literacy and trust in government, young people often feel like outsiders in their own democracy. To close this gap, we build free, open-source tools and resources so anyone with a phone or computer can learn their rights, understand laws, and take action. Our mission is to strengthen democracy by making civic knowledge accessible and actionable for all generations. Through our digital platforms, Kenyans can navigate the Constitution, follow legislative processes, and see how to hold leaders accountable.

Even the Kenyan government recognizes the need for this work. In 2025 communities urged the electoral commission to provide civic education in every ward so people can make informed decisions about voter registration. We’re doing that work online today. For example, our CEKA App (in development) will offer interactive learning modules on everything from basic rights and the electoral system to public participation and accountability. We also created Recall254, a website that explains Kenyans’ constitutional right to recall non-performing elected officials, empowering citizens to understand and exercise that power. In 2025 we launched NASAKA IEBC, an interactive map helping Kenyans locate their nearest voter registration centers. By the time IEBC announced continuous registration was starting, our tool was already guiding people to the right offices.

We put this knowledge in the hands of people through social media and community outreach. Our team has simplified parliamentary bills and legal procedures into clear graphics and posts. When recent events shook Nairobi, like the Karura Forest dispute, we broke down the constitutional issues at stake so citizens knew their rights and how to respond. During national debates on protest laws, our explainers reached well over a million Kenyans, clarifying how peaceful demonstrations are protected. And this year, our voter registration campaign, with partners in media and youth circles, has already connected hundreds of thousands of people to the information they need to register. In short, we amplify Kenyan voices by translating complex civic issues into everyday language and tools.

Every contribution brings this vision closer to reality. Your support helps us:

⦁ Keep our platforms running and growing, from web hosting and app development to outreach.

⦁ Develop and improve our tools like the CEKA App, Recall254, the NASAKA IEBC map, and our legislative bill tracker.

⦁ Produce fresh, digestible content, concise graphics, articles, and legal explainers that cut through confusion.

⦁ Spread awareness far and wide through social media campaigns, youth-focused events, and partnerships with influencers and community leaders.

Donations to Civic Education Kenya don’t just buy code or content; they nurture informed, empowered communities. You’ll be part of a movement ensuring no Kenyan is left behind when it comes to understanding their democracy. Together, we can build a Kenya where everyone knows their rights, participates in the political process, and holds leaders accountable, a vision echoed by Kenyan citizens urging voter education in every ward. As we approach key elections and legislative changes, having clear civic information is more important than ever.
