This is an appeal to build classrooms, toilets for boys and girls,a kitchen cum store, water tank for rain water storage, with hand washing stations, provide them both indoor and outdoor play equipment.They come to school.to learn,having walked far and often hungry due to poverty in Turkana County of Kenya, a marginalized region over years, plagued with recurrent droughts,retrogressive culture of keeping many animals that degrade the environment for dowry for early marriages,keeping boys out of school as herdsboys and girls for early marriages brides. Children facing not only harsh socio-economic challenges but also beaten by retrogressive cultural practices that deny then life chances,consigning one generation to the next to never ending poverty circles. This campaign seeks your kind donations,however small to build a decent school for these children.We seek to build semi permanent classrooms,toilets, a kitchen as another donor, Mary's Meals already provides at least a meal a day. Your donation will also give them a conducive environment shielded from the rains,wind,hot sun,dust causing them never ending flu. Often, due to lack of water and toileting in the bush, their hygiene is poor leading to communicable diseases. They'll not have to repeat early years because the nearest school they could go to for transition is too far,risky to walk in the shrubs which are bandit prone due to cattle rustling. We look to install solar power for electricity, dig a water pan to store water during rains for use on school kitchen garden for vegetables and tree planting to get some shade and greenery in the school,where often temperatures hit over 40 degrees
You donation will give them what every child yearns for, education so that eventually they complete primary school and join high school and hopefully college to be the generation that will breaks the poverty cycle. PS, I lived and worked on Turkana West in Turkana County for 4 years under Windle International in Kenya as Program Manager working for UNHCR education projects, later raised funds to build similar classrooms with Build Africa Kenya as Country Director for 9 years.
